What’s the secret sauce in your business?

I bumped into this video (and the one I’m posting tomorrow too) at the Kaufman Foundation.

Until a few months ago, the only thing I really knew about them was that what I heard at the end of NPR broadcasts. They’ve been a sponsor for many years. The Kauffman Foundation is often referred to as the world’s largest foundation devoted to entrepreneurship.

I love it. A foundation devoted to entrepreneurship!

To my way of thinking there’s nothing more exciting, more enlightening, more patriotic and more freeing than being in business to provide a good service in exchange for value. A good, ethical business is the original do-gooder organization. But with money comes power and power is to be watched like a hawk. It corrupts. The Kaufman Foundation is about turning out more entrepreneurs – like you and me – each year to grow the American economy and get it back on track.

I’m a believer.

These two videos are exceptionally entertaining – and short. The first deals with that elusive “secret sauce” that makes a business spectacular. And it asks the question, “Why can’t all businesses be spectacularly successful?”

Are You The Box Shot King?

Occasionally, I come across someone brilliant.

The brilliance always shows as simplicity. (That's the opposite of me by the way. Everything I do is complex and hard for everyone else to understand because it becomes so muddy by all the INs and OUTs. But I recognize it when I see it.)

I talked Jack into holding a live training for our members. This software is so simple, I'm sure we'll get to advanced techniques after the first 5 minutes,  but you have to see this.

Jack Born is brilliant. He was recommended to me as a new NAMS instructor by one of our students - Patrick Cash. Thanks Patrick - I owe you BIG time.

Jack's credentials are awesome. He has been Perry Marshall's business manager for three years specializing in affiliate, joint venture and viral marketing. He's spoken at some of the biggest conferences (Kennedy Glazer and ClickBank) and been interviewed by some of the biggest names (Ryan Lee, Dr. Glenn Livingston, and others).

And he's an outstanding programmer and graphic designer. (He probably wears a cape and responds to a light in sky shaped like a bat too, but I haven't confirmed that yet.)

So, you would think - with all that - that he'd be an incredibly complex guy. Not so.

Where others see big problems, he sees simple solutions.

I'm so impressed with this simple solution called Box Shot King, that I jumped in quickly. I've packed up my $1000 Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and rely on this simple online program now to create all my marketing materials.

With this system, I'm actually a better graphic artist than I ever thought I could be

The best part is that it takes just seconds to create ALL the images on this page! Here's four I created in the last 15 minutes. And then I added them all to a package image automatically in the system. I used NAMS instructors' websites as image captures.

But I didn't stop there. The splash image in the video above was created in less than 60 seconds.

I could have saved $1000 on software if I'd had this. And I could have saved more than $2000 on graphics artists I've hired over the years.

Jack charges a measly $99 per year for this software. But for NAMS members, I was able to get him to reduce it by 30 percent to $69.

“What the heck are you talking about Jason?” Well, let me explain. This was my first NAMS and I can honestly say it was the best conference I have ever been to. I heard that David Perdew wanted us to write about our “takeaways” from NAMS 6.

I tried, but couldn’t narrow it down to one takeaway, so here are three, hold on tight!

Education…NAMS has recently broken their programming into four “tracks”. This means if you are a beginner or a person making 6 or 7 figures a year, there is a place for you to learn at your own level. I realized that I know very little about my customers and it’s killing my conversions.

Networking…I had 7 figure a year gurus analyze my business and I even met an ex-CIA spy at NAMS. Not to mention tons of other great people that I am going to be working with in this next year. Yeah, I really met an ex-spy…I feel so 007. I realized that it’s all about who you know in this business.

Passion…there was not a moment that I felt sold to, but in every moment I felt that the people who were teaching me really cared. I realized that it’s not all about Ferrari’s and mansions, but about real people helping others.

In Georgia we use the term “sop”, it means to take a piece of solid food to soak up (dip into) liquid food. I tried to “sop” up all the education, networking and passion at NAMS, just like a biscuit in gravy, it was delicious!

My Biggest TakeAway from NAMS6

Wow, there were so many great takeaways from NAMS6 I'm not sure where to start...

But rather than try to pinpoint one "aha" or one session from the many great moments, my real takeaway is the new friendships I've made and the older friendships I've deepened with the folks I already know.

I'll admit that I'm a bit of an introvert, but spending time with people during the lunches, dinners or hanging out by the fire pit 'after hours' is a real treat.

For me, and I suspect for you, the real treasures of NAMS are the people. The conference seems to attract really good, generous, high-integrity peeps. And getting to know people like that is the best thing you can take away from any event.
